On Sunday the 12th of June I took part in England’s biggest open water swimming event. With over ten thousand people plunging into the lake to brave the cold and choppy waters . The race proved challenging especially to begin with as you fight for your place and use perhaps too much energy in the opening burst. However I soon found my rhythm and began to build my momentum. It really is a great event, open to swimmers of all ages and abilities. The setting is fantastic and the encouragement from spectators spurs you on. With a real push towards the end I was made up to knock 60 seconds off my personal best finishing in 35 minutes. As I reached the finish, I felt exhilarated to have conquered such a spectacular lake.
