On Thursday evening Swimsound were very fortunate to be joined by two current Great Britain Water polo players. Verity Mccoy who is an integral member of the under 18s GB squad and Amelia Mccoy a promising U16s GB player. Verity has just helped GB reach the European Championships in Baku.
We gave our advanced swimmers an opportunity to learn more about the game, ask the competitors questions and take part in a structured water polo session. The swimmers learnt passing, movement with the ball, and developed their shooting skills throughout the session. There were fantastic demonstrations by both players and Amelia and Verity gave our swimmers some excellent advice and encouragement throughout the session.
The lesson ended in a great game were the children got the opportunity to wear the official head gear and demonstrate the new skills they had acquired. Verity awarded one of our swimmers, Emily, a GB hat as she had excelled during the session.
We look forward to Verity and Amelia working with us in the future as they further their coaching skills. The advanced sessions will continue to thrive; during the summer we have rookie lifeguarding sessions and our summer gala to look forward to.
