As we end another fantastic year at Swimsound, all the coaches hard work with our talented swimmers was put on show at our Annual Summer Galas.
With Galas being held across multiple venues including St Edward’s, Springwood and Calderstones it is no surprise that our swimmers turned up and swam sensationally.
Our Springwood Gala saw our younger advanced swimmers get an opportunity to compete and show off their abundance of skills, with a great atmosphere being built by our coaches and parents it is no surprise that swimmers were setting personal records almost every race!
With the Calderstones Gala commencing on Friday evening, we saw 21 swimmers give it their all with team captains Ian and Jorge leading their teams through the races. All swimmers competed across multiple races showcasing different strokes.
The penultimate race being an Individual medley followed by a team Canon relay. We are exceptionally proud of Noah for swimming an impressive 13.74 length of Front crawl to seal a Calderstones record. With everyone’s hard work it was no surprise that the evening ended so close with only 2 points separating the teams. Jorge’s team narrowly taking the victory, with medals and certificates, a great time was had by everyone.
Our Gala week finished with our Saturday St Edward’s Gala, which saw 30 swimmers going head to head in our most popular venue with a packed crowd of parents. 3 separate teams competed across a multitude of events, the swimmers gave it their all across the races, eager to break and set records. Niamh managed to clinch a 25m freestyle record with an excellent show of talent.
There was one swimmer who smashed all expectations, Nalika effortlessly shattered a 9 year long standing frontcrawl record at Swimsound with a time of 34.69 seconds for 50m. Nalika also managed to clinch 3 other records including an 18.22 (25m front crawl), 43.75 (50m breaststroke) and last but not least a sub 18 25m length of butterfly. All this at just 11 years old and she has just been accepted into the City of Liverpool to swim and train with them.
It is safe to say this Gala season has been a huge success for all involved. This is attributed to our talented team of coaches and incredibly hardworking students.
