After a summer of fantastic intensives, we’ve begun a new course of our swimming lessons. With the new term comes new opportunities to learn to swim with Liverpool’s leading swim school!
Our team of coaches have begun developing an interesting and varied curriculum for the term ahead, focused on progression, technique and water safety. We’re looking enjoying welcoming all our fantastic swimmers back and look forward to meeting the next generation of Swimsound swimmers!
We split our standard classes into 5 ability classes:
- DUCKLING: Our duckling classes are best suited for ages 3-5, and work on developing basic swimming skills, such as floating, moving independently on front and back and swimmers submerging their face in the water. In this class, we encourage confidence through adventures and play, as we believe that children learn best when they are having fun. The awards given at this stage are Duckling 1-4.
- BEGINNER: Our beginner classes develop the basic skills achieved in Ducklings, working on swimming widths of front-crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke. They also begin learning harder skills, such as dolphin kicking and under-water confidence. Our beginner classes are aimed at ages 5-7, and go through Stage 1 and Stage 2.
- BEGINNER + : Our beginner + classes work on all 4 strokes, developing technique, speed and distance abilities. Stamina and swimming out of depth are big focuses in this stage of learning, as well as diving (in our deeper pools). A beginner + swimmer can achieve Stage 3 and Stage 4.
- INTERMEDIATE: Our intermediate classes are focused on fine-tuning technique through challenging and varied stroke drills and introducing swimmers to some of the more competitive aspects of the sport, such as tumble-turns and racing dives. Swimming longer distances and improving speed and efficiency are big learning points for our intermediate classes, leading to Stage 5 and Stage 6.
- ADVANCED: Our advanced classes are when swimmers graduate from swimming widths to swimming lengths. Here, our experienced coaches work on building stamina, learning how to sprint, and advanced techniques on all 4 strokes. Our advanced swimmers partake in our fantastic winter and summer swimming galas, and learn how to swim competitively through achieving Stages 6 and 7, and Swim England’s Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards. We also teach rookie lifeguard skills.
We often hold water safety sessions, keeping our swimmers safe and teaching them about the importance of being careful around water. They learn about different flags used at beaches and their meaning, life-saving techniques and safe ways to rescue others from drowning. Our older children do a session in clothes, teaching them what to do if they fall in unexpectedly and how to swim with increased resistance. This ensures our swimmers are not only technically skilled in their swimming, but also can be safe and secure when enjoying the water on holiday or on the beach.
If you are ever unsure about which class would be best suited for your swimmer, our coaches will assess your swimmer on their first lesson and will help you make the right choice.
Alongside our group classes, we offer some other incredible swimming opportunities: our 1-1 and 2-1 classes have been proving popular. At Swimsound, we believe everyone should have the equal opportunity to learn to swim. Our coaches will meet the needs of every swimmer and provide assistance, whether this is due to a physical disability or a learning difficulty. Private sessions are also an excellent way to fast-track progression and technique development. We are so fortunate to have a team of coaches who are truly dedicated to helping every swimmer achieve their individual goals.
Swimming is not only for kids! Our adult learner courses have been running for the last few years, and we have seen phenomenal progress from everyone who’s attended. Our private, bespoke lessons are open to all abilities: from those who never had the opportunity to learn when they were younger, and come to us as complete beginners, to athletes looking for technique and racing advice.
We’re really excited for the term ahead and can’t wait to get stuck in! Book now to join Liverpool’s leading swim school today.
